Take Full Advantage of Your Selling Points—Here’s How!

A message on hold is a marketing strategy that can point out the strengths of your business or brand, and also help increase sales. Here are ways you can maximize your message on hold and take advantage of your selling points.

Be credible. You build brand credibility by earning the trust of your customers. Messages on hold need to be based on facts to be credible. One way to do this is to back up your messages with valid statistics. This is an appropriate time to insert numbers in a message. Consider these examples:

“Customers have trusted our brand for ten years.”

“We have thirty service vehicles covering all of Brisbane, so you won’t have to wait long for a service crew to come to you.”

“Did you know that four out of ten households will lose at least $50 in energy costs per year because of single glazed low insulated windows?

Be informative and helpful. A message on hold also serves to inform and help as many callers as possible. Include answers to your customers’ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) like business hours and location, website and email address, ongoing promos and discounts, or new products and services. Another way to do this is to ask yourself, “What problem can I solve for my callers?” Zoom in on specific problem areas or needs of your callers, and then build your message around providing solutions to those issues. Take a look at the following example:

“You’ll never know when to anticipate a broken window or a leaky faucet. They always happen at unexpected times. That’s why we’ve expanded our emergency handyman repair services to include 24/7 customer support. Now you won’t have to worry to wait until the morning to call a repairman.”

Be friendly. It’s a fact that people want attention and they want it right now. It doesn’t matter what kind of products or services you offer, for people will always expect you to be friendly and accommodating, even in something as mundane as a phone message. That’s not to say that you have to sweet talk your clients over the phone all the time to the point that it comes off as annoying. You still have to maintain professionalism, but make sure that you give your callers and customers the attention that they need. If your message on hold sounds so professional and friendly at the same time, while managing to provide a prompt and efficient response to your callers’ concerns, your callers will trust you more.

Be interesting and entertaining. Enthusiasm is infectious. That being said, you will not receive any positive response or more turnover to sales when your message on hold voice, or even the message itself is boring and monotonous. Spice things up a bit by sharing an interesting, unknown trivia about your company or infuse a splash of humor into your words and delivery. Mix voices and sounds in your messages. Have fun in your messages on hold and always project your company or your brand in a positive light.
