Latest Marketing Tips by Rob Ward from Quad Lock

The Internet is full of online marketing tips from self-appointed experts, but if you want some really helpful advice get it from someone with a real success story. Rob Ward and Chris Peters had nothing except an idea 4 years ago. They came up with a mountable iPhone lock called Quad Lock, which they proceeded to sell online and in retail stores. This year the will turnover $9 million in revenue!

So how did they do it?

  1. They use Facebook… a LOT. Facebook is under appreciated by some when it comes to marketing. But it’s the driving force behind a lot of viral marketing campaigns. You can forge deeper interactions with potential customers, and these people in turn will recommend your product to their circle of friends.
  2. They never ignore mobile traffic. They’re a sizable part of the Net-surfing population, and you lose out on a lot of potential income when you don’t gear your websites towards accommodating mobile needs. Mobile traffic can also be a fantastic lead generator for re-marketing back onto desktop traffic.
  3. They cater to different kinds of audience with multiple websites. They used different kinds of content and different ads for each. You present your product in different ways by catering to different groups of people. For example, you may design websites for different age groups, or you can have a different version for guys and then for girls. But you can use one website to introduce your audience to all your other websites.
  4. They figured out a way to keep their customers coming back. Once you get people to your site for the first time, the next goal is to know how to get them back, as well as to get them to spend money. A new e-commerce site is basically an unknown store, and people may be hesitant to buy. You can overcome that hesitation by featuring content from other users, such as customer reviews. This makes the site look more open, more transparent, and more trustworthy.
  5. They present other cool stuff that bolsters the image of their company. Again, it’s all about boosting your image as the seller, and not just boosting your product. By enhancing your reputation, you can convince potential customers that your product is of high quality.
  6. They dig deeper to better understand potential customers. Keep asking yourself what possible reasons people may have to not buy your product, and then you present content that overcomes those reasons. Eventually, your potential customer has to buy because there’s no reason not to.
  7. They maximize on email marketing. Once you get people to sign up with their email addresses on your website, you can then send emails to convince them to buy from you. Rob’s first email was a special discount, which made people feel they were privileged to receive the offer. Then his next email was about a list of the top apps for different purposes. In any case, use email marketing as a way to communicate and encourage customers to buy. You don’t have to send them promotional content everytime, but instead send them some info they can use so that the recipients don’t regret getting messages from you and you also become more trustworthy in their eyes.

So it all boils down to two things: (1) aim to get lots of traffic so you can spread your marketing message, and (2) your message should build trust and credibility. By doing these things, you will make people feel confident about you, your company and your products.
